Warwick Crown Courts
For nearly five hundred years the Warwick Crown Courts has seen criminals pass through its doors to a life of incarceration or straight to the gallows. The original prisoner’s cells remain as well as a dungeon dating to the Middle Ages, and we have limited dates at this amazing venue before it is redeveloped!
Over the years there have been many sightings of ghosts reported within the building and the cells. The most reported is that of a spectral woman seen walking the prisoner’s cells – is she really looking for her child or something more sinister?
Dis-incarnate voices, slamming of cells doors and phantom footsteps have been reported, but also the instant feeling of fear and dread amongst visitors is recorded.
In the Middle Ages the courts for Warwick took place in a hall attached to the old county jail, however by 1576 courts were being held in the Shire Hall. Sometime between 1676 and 1680 there was a rebuilding but within twenty years the Shire Hall was badly damaged by the Great Fire of Warwick in 1694. It was quickly repaired and again, in 1753 it was completely rebuilt. The building retains aspects of all the eras of it’s life, original passages below the courts are believed to date to the 1700s, and the cells possibly far earlier.
The Warwick Crown Courts Ghost Hunt is packed with activities, you will be taking part in an investigation using ghost hunting equipment and sitting in ghost hunting vigils. Accompanying you will be a paranormal investigator and a medium with the knowledge and experience to place you in situations that could spark off ghostly activity!
