LAST CHANCE IN SALISBURY Back to Ghost Hunts
*
Salisbury may be a small medieval city but it boasts a staggering twenty ghosts including an executed aristocrat, a friendly 17th century Cavalier and even a ghost that likes doing housework!

During our ghost tour of the city’s most haunted streets and buildings, you will be introduced to the ancient and modern hauntings discovering terrifying tales to send shivers down your spine – like the china and glassware store Watsons. Watsons, which dates back to 1306, is said to be inhabited by a ghost wearing a plume in his hat and is thought to be a 17th century Cavalier. Nicknamed Oliver, the ghost moves from the staff room into the Portmerion china shop and then vanishes through the wall.

And then there is Henry Stafford, the Duke of Buckingham who was executed in Salisbury 600 years ago for betraying Richard III. He spent his last night of freedom where the Blue Boar restaurant in Debenhams now stands and it is said his ghostly presence can be felt throughout the building. Hidden away in the store are the original cobblestones from that era. When attempts have been made to remove the cobblestones unsettling things are said to have happened.

Fright Nights have organised a special final investigation in this amazingly haunted city at one of its key haunted locations.

Fright NightsThe Salisbury Guildhall has a local reputation for being very haunted, we have not only secured the fantastic Georgian Meeting Rooms and Attic but also two floors of Cells that lie underneath the city’s streets!

The Guildhall of today is the fourth such building to occupy this position within the City of Salisbury. The first Guildhall dates back to Tudor times, when it was known as "The Bishop's Guildhall". Then, the building was under the control of the Bishop, from where he exercised his feudal rights of criminal and civil justice.

Salisbury missed a lot of the action of the Civil War but there were a few occasions in which skirmishes took place and in one, the Guildhall was heavily featured. In March 1655, Colonel Penruddock’s rebels stormed the Guildhall and kidnapped the Assize judges and the High Sheriff of the county, and freed the inmates of the gaol. The sounds of gunshots and screaming have often been heard in the cells, could it be a remnant of the Civil War? In 1780, "The Council House" was burnt down after banquet, The Second Earl of Radnor, then made the generous offer or providing a new building at his own expense. At the same time, the opportunity was taken to clear up the situation regarding "The Bishop's Guildhall". This building had fallen into a ruinous condition, with the Bishop unable to afford its upkeep. In 1795, an Act of Parliament was passed, providing for the surrender of the Bishop's rights to the Guildhall, on condition of there being provided a new Council House cum-Guildhall Gaol.

The new "Guildhall" was built practically on the site of the old one. Alterations were made to the building in 1829, which led to the addition of the Grand Jury Room, extensions to the size of the courts and new accommodation for the judges.

With all this history and action, its no doubt that it has left an unremovable mark on the building. Many staff members have had very unusual sightings and witnessed incredible activity, it is now your chance to investigate and discover the hauntings of the Guildhall!

The event includes an exclusive ghost walk around Salisbury and the Guildhall, use of ghost hunting equipment and mediumship workshop. Through the night various activities and psychic experiments with two of Britain's leading paranormal experts and clairvoyant medium. Andy Matthews has appeared on countless TV programmes as a paranormal expert including "Ghost Detectives" and "Northern Ireland's Greatest Haunted", joining him is former Most Haunted psychic artist Marion Goodfellow.  She has an international reputation as one of the world's leading and accurate mediums, she is the perfect guide for tonight's ghost hunt.
