Description

Wath Town Hall is a former private residence and municipal structure in Church Street, Wath Upon Dearne, South Yorkshire, England.  The Hall, was once the headquarters of Wath Upon Dearne Urban District Council.

It is a Grade II listed building that occupies the site of a manor house built for the Fleming family in the 14th century. Reiner le Fleming, was lord of the manor of Wath Upon Dearne.  He founded Kirklees Priory in 1155 during the reign of King Henry II.  The current building was designed in the neoclassical style as a private residence, built in red brick, rendered with cement and finally completed in 1770.  It was bought for £2,500 in 1892 by the council for use as its Town Hall and the building continued to serve as the headquarters of Wath Upon Dearne Urban District Council for much of the 20th century.

Paranormal History of the venue

The spirit of a maid, named Barbara, has been seen walking the floors of the building, and the sound of children running and playing games on the stairs have been heard.  These are just some of the spirits that may be lurking behind the walls of the recently renovated Dearne Valley building. The site on which the present building stands, has a wide and varied history going back centuries, and many people have encountered a number of spirits from different time periods.  These also include the spirit of a doctor who makes himself known in the first room on the left, and the spirit of a vicar who has been seen wandering around the grounds of the building.

The cellar is also haunted by 2 spirits connected to the foundations, who originate from the cottages that were there before Wath Town Hall was built.  Who are these spirits and what will we find out about them?  Come and join us as we explore this new location!
