Tolhouse Gaol Ghost Hunt – £42 (VIP £37.80) 29/10/22

Description

The Fright Nights Norfolk team will be conducting our second ghost Hunt at the Tolhouse Gaol / Museum on 29th October.  A Halloween Special.  This 11th century building was originally owned by a merchant family who used the building for the storage of their goods but by the 13th century it was used for the payment of tolls and taxes.

In later years, the Tolhouse became a Court with the underground storerooms being used as a dungeon (known as ‘The Hold’) with many prisoners being locked away over the years including: thieves, smugglers, witches, pirates and murderers. Even Women and Children were included in this as well. The punishment ranged from being placed in stocks, whipped, branded with hot irons and execution by hanging.

In 1645 Matthew Hopkins the infamous witch finder general arrived in Yarmouth to conduct his witch trials and had several women executed.

The prison finally closed in 1878, but many of its past inmates are said to still walk the corridors and cells and many testify that this is a very dark and eerie place not for those that are easily frightened.

Previous activity includes visitors being pushed by unseen entities, chilling screams being heard and visions of ghostly apparitions.

Who will be brave enough to spend the night with us in the Tolhouse Gaol and do a lone vigil in the dark?
