Description

Join Fright Nights as we investigate this maze of tunnels underneath the city of Nottingham!

Nottingham sits upon a soft sandstone ridge which can easily be dug with simple hand tools to create artificial cave dwellings. Indeed Nottingham was once known as Tigguo Cobauc meaning Place of Caves and was referred to as such by the Bishop of Sherborne Asser in The Life of King Alfred (893AD).

The caves here are some of the oldest remaining in the city, where there have been pottery finds dating back to 1270-1300, and evidence that they were inhabited from at least the 17th century until 1845 when the St. Mary’s Inclosure Act banned the renting of cellars and caves as homes for the poor. None of the caves are natural, they were all cut into the sandstone for use as houses, cellars and places of work by the inhabitants of the city.

These underground sandstone caves consist of a medieval tannery, WW2 air raid shelter and the remnants of Drury Hill Victorian slums. Dig deeper into their history with our medium during our night of investigation.

The City of Caves Ghost Hunt includes:
Initial Briefing including information about fright nights, health and safety talk, and what happens on the night
Mediumship walk round – who haunts tonight?
Psychic experiments including séances, glass divination, your own senses and more.
Ghost Hunting Vigils in the dark with our medium.
Ghost Hunting Vigils using various pieces of ghost hunting equipment.
Hot Drinks and Biscuits.
Your chance to ghost hunt in a haunted location at night!

The City of Caves, which lie under the Broadmarsh Shopping Centre is a vast area beneath the houses, shops and offices of Nottingham. Few people in Nottingham are aware of this labyrinth, which exists underneath their city streets, and fewer still have visited them. Nottingham has more man-made caves than anywhere else in Britain. People have worked and lived in them for over 1,000 years and this is your chance to explore them for yourself, searching for the unexplained and paranormal.

The recorded history of paranormal events at the caves is also fascinating, with disembodied voices, dark shadows and cloudy apparitions all being seen moving around.  A vision of a crying Victorian woman has been seen and from it’s history as a WW2 bomb shelter, the sounds of explosions have been heard above and guests have been pelted with stones.

ARE YOU BRAVE ENOUGH TO SPEND THE NIGHT WITH US?
